Falling Out of Love with Ourselves
It is easy to fall in love. It is not so easy to fall out of love . . . not with others, but with ourselves. Like ideas, or inventions, or the act of writing a book, we fall in love with ourselves and we become invested in our current form. Then the hard part comes, when we must change. To improve, by definition, we must break or even shatter what we were and build anew. The High Holy Days demand that we look at not just what we need to fix, but what of ourselves needs to be broken, so that a new and better self can emerge.
