The Time is Now
Time presses on. We enter Elul and look up as so many think "How is it August?" Too soon, too soon. "How has the sun risen so many times and the moon waxed and waned 11 times? How? How? I'm not ready. I need more time."
We all need more time, especially this time of year. Elul is the constant annual reminder that the time is now. We've wasted so much time forgetting all our pledges and promises from last Yom Kippur. We've walked away from so many thoughts of being different, living differently. We live in our comfortable denial that the world needs us, needs our input, needs our peace in order to be filled with greater peace. It is time to prepare. Time to center ourselves and seek our inner kindness and tolerance for a world that seems off the rails. We must see God in everyone around us and remember the piece of Creation that lives within each of us.
Elul enters with the sound of the horn calling us back. The shofar blast awakens us from our slumber. "Return! Return! The time is now. Wake up! Breathe! Elul calls us back to our best selves."
Be the sweetness you wish to see this year filled with. Be the peace we all wish to find.
